Ella The Rainbow Princess

Hello dear friends,

after long and very hot summer, I have returned with Ella The rainbow Doll.

Las week I had friend over for a visit, who came with her 6 year old daughter Ella. After I showed Ella my crocheted dolls collection she had hard time deciding which one was her favorite. So I offered her a deal.

I told her I would make her the most special off all dolls, doll she dreams of. In order to make her wish come true, I asked I gave her colored pencils and markers and asked her to draw such doll. Told her to take her time, to take some time thinking and when completely sure to draw her dream doll.

After a while Ella came with this drawingDSC_0002-001On the left side of the drawing you can see tarantula, while on the right side, giant African millipede is crawling. I keep few of such lovely creatures (many of you will have goosebumps hearing this 🙂 ) as pets, and Ella loved seeing them. She was specially fascinated by giant African millipedes and their size, as well as hissing Madagascar cockroaches who hissed at her every time she came near.

Now I had the drawing and next day had to start making this lovely doll we named Rainbow Princess.

As with starting any other doll, important is to know which shapes to use, where to start, and  to prepare your material in advance.

I finished this lovely princess in one day. It was wonderful experience and so much fun to return to childhood and create something so simple and something so extraordinary and beautiful as Rainbow Princess Ella had drawn. Colors she has chosen, the way she put them together. High heel boots in orange color that were must have…. and so many other details that were so much fun to make.

I remember, when I saw the drawing for the first time, my first thought was “oh, nooooo”… for the open mouth with tongue showing. I was so worried and thought of ways making such mouth without many complications while crocheting.

At the end decided to simply draw the mouth using textile paints and apply them as more as drawing than to fill each stitch with color trying to make them as perfect as possible. At the end it worked nice (so I think).

On what I came up and how I crocheted doll after 6 year old Ella’s drawing is here:

At the end Ella was thrilled with her doll. Do you know what amazed her the most?

Those criss-crosses you can see in front of her dress, and off course, high heels on doll’s boots 😀

If you have a little child or grand child and you don’t know what doll to crochet for them. Ask them to draw doll they’d like to have, and simply make one.

Same as your child has drawn in simple way, you crochet that simple. Keep an eye on details and colors. Those are important. If you make or fail the shape of head, or body, or make legs little shorter or even longer, child won’t notice that.  On another hand, don’t forget to add details as fingers, use exact colors on locations your child drawn them, if doll has eyelashes, add them, if there is one single polka dot on drawn dress, don’t forget to make it on your doll too. Those little things are what children won’t forget and will check your work to see if it matches their drawing. I warmly recommend you try this, making a doll or toy based on your child’s drawing. Happiness when they see their dream doll come to life, is priceless.

Really hope you like little Ella The Rainbow Doll. If you wish to make doll based on your child’s drawing but not sure where to start, feel free to write and I will try to help you.

This is not the only project I’ve done this summer. I was not near PC and internet each day, but whenever I had little bit of time (and when it was not hell hot), I did work a little.

In the following weeks there will be several patterns I’ll share for free and sale.

Some of them are:

Week in a Fairy Land

This week was pretty busy! It was al about fairies!

As my older niece’s birthday is coming up this month was n a hurry to start with and finish fairy house I told her the fairies started to build in my garden 😀

Photo that gave me idea to make such house one day popped out on Pinterest.  Fell in love with the houses this young woman is making/creating.  Here is the link to her beautifully fairy house.

http://alittlefurinthepaint.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-fairy-house-revisited.html

You should go and see how wonderful work she is doing!

Here is the house I have been working on.  Construction of the house is made in paper clay. Have the roof done, and walls are painted so far. Now have small work in polymer clay to do. Windows, doors decorations such as flowers…  I am planning on making the house door movable, so my nice can open and sneak peak inside to look for the fairies;  will try to make few pieces of furniture to decorate inside as well.

This will keep me busy for the next few days, maybe whole next week, depending how well my fingers will listen my creative mind 😀  Will make sure to take the photo of the house when completely finished.  Here are the photos of what I have done so far.

Still lots of work to do….

Speaking of fairies… making this little house, and me loving fairies and fantasy, I tried to make a little fairy doll.

The biggest problem was finding suitable wings to fit the fairy. Not to small, not to big, not to difficult, not to simple….ahhh….. what problems …..

I am still not sure my choice is the best one made but this pattern was easy to make, wings are firm and steady…. and I still have time finding new ones and trying them out 😀

Today I am not going to talk about the pattern. Didn’t have time to write it all down for you to try to make the fairy doll. It is the hair that need lots of explaining(s).

Aha…before I continue talking, let me show you few photographs of this Fairy Doll I have made.

Doll is same size as BB Dolls. Changed the head shape and made arms little bit longer. Dress is different (this one is cut in waist – but again easy to make).

Hair is not so difficult to make even though it looks pretty complicated wrapped here and there.

It can’t bee seen on the photos well, but hair is done in two pieces. Back with pony tail, and front with bangs and side hairs to fill al the gaps around ears.

Aha, this doll has the ears! 😀 Elvish ones!!!

I hope the pattern will be finished by the end of next week. Will try to make it. Still wish to work some more on this Fairy Doll.  Wish to change shape of the shoes, have to unblock my mind so can finally remember how to make left/right ear instead of making both right 😀 … Have few more hair styles I would like to try making …

Did try making tiny fairy as well. You can see her on photo below.  Size smaller than little Karla doll. Here she is compared to finished fairy. The head in front of the dolls is new airy I am working on.

Hope you enjoyed these little fairies and their stories!

I didn’t want to finish this week without at least one pattern to keep you busy over the weekend 😀

As a mater of fact I have prepared two patterns for you that am sure you will enjoy very much.

Both are fast and easy to make. Outcome is amazing! You will have lots of fun making them and I am sure will find someone to make a nice gift to!

First one comes from dear blogger friend Sharon and her Gentlestitches.com. She has created this little Koala that I have made and love it.

I have added the branch and made Koala as a keychain. My Koala ended up about 6-7 cm high what made him just perfect for a keychain. Is really so adorable. I didn’t have safety nose to put it on, so I sewed, embroidered one instead. So did with the eyes. Photo is not the best one (but again, when did you see any of my photographs turning out perfect 😉 ).

Link to the pattern and free download to this pattern is here:

The second pattern I warmly recommend is one quite unusual but again so outstanding and gorgeous one. I fell in one with this one at first sight. Did not have peace until I tried it out! The second pattern is made by Jennifer at Squirrel Picnic. Her pattern is Cuddly Robot or MEAP 🙂

This is my MEAP made following the Jennifer’s pattern!

She has got this great, great idea on making the wheels! You should try it!

Link to MEAP pattern and Squirrel Picnic blog is here:

Really hope you will enjoy making both of these wonderful toys and have lots and lots of fun! 😀

Wishing you all wonderful and peaceful weekend.

Love and hugs to all,

Vanja

Week without the pattern?

My dear friends,

Just a short note to let everyone know, that this week will not be bale to post new pattern. My two nieces are coming for a visit and will have hands full 😉 Can’t wait for their arrival tomorrow!

That doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy making some new things. Started two projects last week.

Barbapapa and his family:

Barbapapa & Barbamama - 2So far have only Papa and Mama. Neither one of them is finished yet but to give you an idea on what I was working at. Hope that some of you will remember Barbapapa and his cartoon adventures on how to fit into men’s world 🙂 More about Barbapapa, Barbamama and their seven children when pattern will be done! They will get one post just about them

Here is one more of nice Barbapapa family photos.

Barbapapa & Barbamama - 1 The next project that was started last week, as well, was inspired by LalaOopsie dolls. So far have doll’s body done. Hair half done….and still have to think of and work on dress, shoes, pet and little sister, right!?

O,Opsie <3 - 1 As you can see, there is still lots of work to do on this one. Wanted to let you see and have idea on how the doll will look like when finished.O,Opsie <3 - 2Will try to finish one of these two patterns by Sunday, latest Monday evening. Eventually both of the patterns will be posted, but if there are some preferences on witch one to publish first, let me know. 🙂

Wishing you all great and happy week!
